Amid escalating global challenges, China, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have forged a groundbreaking path in cross-regional cooperation by issuing a joint statement (“Joint Statement”) on the ASEAN-China-GCC Summit held on May 27, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Joint Statement acknowledges the joint efforts to promote closer cooperation between ASEAN, China, and GCC and China’s vision to build a closer China-ASEAN Community and a China-Arab Community in the new era. Specifically, the Joint Statement proposes to further deepen Belt and Road cooperation, enhance cooperation in areas such as connectivity, economy and trade, industrial and supply chains, agriculture, energy, finance, and the digital economy. It also strengthens mutual learning among civilizations, carries out closer multilateral cooperation, and advances trilateral integration for strong, inclusive, and sustainable development, contributing to the building of a community with a shared future.

With the issuance of the Joint Statement, the trilateral cooperation mechanism not only fosters collaborative agreements across regions but also creates a novel platform of communication and dialogue for the Global South countries to closely coordinate on regional and international affairs and amplify their voices on the global stage.
