LIU, Mitchell

Mr. Liu Minxuan graduated from Shenyang Science and Engineering University (Now known as Shenyang Ligong University) in 1999, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Electronics Engineering. He obtained a Bachelor in Economic Law from Liaoning University in 2001, and later acquired a Master of Laws from Fudan University in 2009.

Mr. Liu holds dual qualifications as a lawyer and a patent attorney, offering clients comprehensive solutions. Mr. Liu focuses on Intellectual Property (IP) legal services, specializing in IP dispute resolution and IP non-litigation legal services.

Mr. Liu and his team have garnered clients across the country and the globe, including large and medium sized state owned enterprises, public institutions, foreign-funded enterprises, private enterprises, commercial banks, non-bank financial institutions, and industry investment funds along with other sectors. The team’s work covers a wide range of industries which includes, but not limited to, machinery manufacturing, semiconductors, chemical materials, pharmaceuticals, Internet technology, media. The team has established strong partnerships with their clients.

Mr. Liu has handled a significant number of landmark IP cases. To name a few, he has acted for Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Korea) patent infringement and patent invalidation case, patent and trade secret disputes during the listening period of ASR Microelectronics Co. Ltd, and a series of cases involving patent invalidation, administrative and civil litigation for Brother Industries, Ltd ( Japan) against local Chinese infringers. Besides the aforementioned cases, Mr. Liu has also represented cases which have been nationally recognized for its significance in the IP field. For example, he represented 3M Company of the United States in a patent infringement dispute case, the top one most exemplary case of IP protection in Shanghai in 2012; represented Youku in the Pre-action Behavior Preservation Case over Unfair Competition Dispute Arising from Broadcast of Youku Videos by MoreTV Video Software 6, one of the Top Ten Cases on Judicial Protection of IP Rights By Shanghai Courts in 2018; represented Taiyuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. in an infringement case of the invention patent for "rolling mill with three adjustable roll stands, a Top Ten Intellectual Property Case in Shandong Courts in 2018; represented Jiang in the case of Jiang et al. v. Wang on patent application right transfer contract dispute, a typical IP case of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court in 2018; represented ASR Microelectronics Co., Ltd. and Spreadtrum Communications, Inc. in a Wi-Fi Standard Essential Patent (SEP) related case, which was selected as one of the 100 Typical Cases celebrating the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People's Court in 2024；represented Tena in a technology contract dispute case, which was recognized as one of the 8 Typical Cases in the field of technological innovation of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court in 2025.

In addition, Mr. Liu has handled a number of influential cases, including patent infringement and invalidation cases, civil and criminal trade secret cases, trademark confirmation and infringement cases, as well as intellectual property contract litigation and arbitration cases.

Mr. Liu has been awarded numerous prestigious and honorable titles. Mr. Liu has topped the lawyer rankings of Chambers Asia-Pacific consecutively for five years from 2021 to 2026, he is highly recognized and named a recommended lawyer in IP litigation. He was titled a 2024 IP Expert in China by renowned IP Magazine Asia IP in 2024. Legal500, an internationally renowned legal rating agency, awarded Mr. Liu the title of IP recommended lawyer in years 2022- 2024. He was listed as one of the Asian Legal Business (ALB) 2016 China Top 15 IP lawyers, Top 50 China outstanding IP lawyers in years 2018-2022. He was titled the 2024 China IP Expert by Asia IP and awarded IP STARS in 2023-2025. While serving as one of the legal advisors of the China 2010 Shanghai World Expo Volunteer Work Group, Mr. Liu was awarded the title as an Elitist Volunteer by the Expo’s executive committee. He was also appointed as a Shanghai Consumer Rights Lawyer Volunteer by the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee.

Mr. Liu was appointed a Shanghai Science and Technology Association Legal Advisory Committee member in 2017 and 2024; a Shanghai Commercial Mediation Centre second forum mediator in 2017; a special mediator of the People's Mediation Committee of the Shanghai Pudong New District Intellectual Property Association in 2018; a Shanghai Commercial Mediation Centre third forum mediator in 2019; a guiding expert of Suzhou branch-center of the National Overseas Intellectual Property Dispute Response Guidance Center in 2021, a legal consultant of the Minhang District Committee of CPC and Shanghai Minhang District People's Government in 2021; an outstanding organizer of the Shanghai Services Federation in 2022, and an expert of the Intellectual Property Expert base in 2023.

Mr. Liu is currently the deputy chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of Shanghai Bar Association, the secretary-general of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Intellectual Property Association, the director of the China Law Association on Science & Technology, and the representative lawyer of the 11th Shanghai Lawyers' Congress.
