On July 16, 2025, China and Egypt signed a landmark expansion agreement for the expansion of the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (“TEDA Zone”), marking a significant step forward in bilateral industrial cooperation and regional economic integration.

Located near the Suez Canal in the Ain Sokhna region (Suez Governorate), the TEDA Zone is part of the larger Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. It aims to establish Egypt as a regional industrial and logistics hub linking Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. The development strategy of the TEDA Zone has been focused on high-end manufacturing sectors, including new energy technologies, advanced materials, automotive components, and fine chemicals, aligning with the principles of the Belt and Road Initiative for high-quality development and sustainable growth.

This newly signed agreement involves a substantial $100 million investment by Chinese investors. This expansion will bring the total area of the TEDA Zone to over 10 square kilometers, positioning it as one of the region's most prominent manufacturing and logistics hubs. Additionally, this agreement exemplifies how the Belt and Road Initiative continues to create tangible economic benefits for participating countries, fostering industrial upgrading, job creation, and technology transfer while building integrated manufacturing ecosystems that serve both regional and global markets.
