Recently, A Guide to Working and Living in China as Business Expatriates (2025 Edition) (the “Guide”) was released jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and other related authorities, covering a wide range of areas, including without limitation accommodation, communication, bank card, residence permit, work permit, social insurance, mobile payment, transportation, individual income tax.
The Guide consists of four parts, i.e., Dos and Don’ts, Daily Life Service, Services for Stay and Residence in China, and Relevant Services for Work in China. The business expatriates need to complete accommodation registration, pay attention to terms of visas and residence permits, apply for work permit, pay social insurance contributions, and pay individual income tax. The Guide also provides detailed instructions on SIM card, bank card, mobile payment, exchange of foreign currencies, use of transportation means, etc., and the contents on RMB cash payment, visa-free transit stay for foreign nationals, application for the Mainland travel permit for Hong Kong and Macao residents are newly added to the Guide.
